A grooving funky samba for brass and percussion
Samba De Queijo started life in 2014 as a short concert work for saxophone ensemble and was scored for brass band in 2017. The piece was originally conceived as a “slightly cheesy” Latin jazz chart that would challenge the ensemble, while remaining accessible to audiences. Ideal as a concert opener, samba and funk grooves form the basis of this tour de force big band-style chart for brass and percussion. With jazz solos for trombone and soprano cornet, driving bass lines and percussion features, the music has taken on a darker, more ferocious tone than the original version while maintaining its feel-good factor.
