Gerswin's 'Summertime' was written for the 1935 opera Porgy and Bess and has become one the the best loved jazz standards of all time. This version, scored for the standard S/A/T/B saxophone quartet line up, has been re-harmonised and given a more contemporary feel. There is flexible solo space, for either alto or tenor, over an open two chord sequence and a soprano solo over the changes for the melody. This arrangement allows for improvisers to take solos but it is possible to abridge the chart to cut out the solo section if non improvising quartets wish to perform this work.

With a modern latin funk groove, this 'feel-good factor' quartet is a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
