Written in 1969 by Pee Wee Ellis as the B side to James Brown’s record Popcorn, The Chicken shot to notoriety when Jaco Pastorius released his studio version in the 1970s.

Scored for two altos, tenor and baritone, and with an optional drum part included, this chart is a workout for the whole ensemble. Starting with the famous soulful introductory section before the baritone sax kicks off the legendary bass riff, this chart features a blistering shout chorus and solo space for your lead alto.
